Sports Premium

Sports Premium

The Oxfordshire Hospital School is no longer in receipt of a Sports Premium Grant.  The impact of historic spend is outlined below.

Primary school sports funding premium

The PE and sport premium for primary schools is government funding put in place to help primary schools, and schools with primary age students, improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. To date, the funding within Oxfordshire Hospital School has been used to develop a strong PE curriculum that caters for the medical needs of the students attending. This has been achieved through thoughtful provision and delivery, alongside collaboration with medical experts to ensure as many students as possible have access to the physical activity offer.

Ofsted inspection report: Oxfordshire Hospital School, 6-7 July 2017

“The sport premium is used very effectively to ensure that pupils can benefit from a range of different therapeutic activities to enhance their mental and physical health.”

Over the initial three year allocation the funding stream has allowed the Oxfordshire Hospital School to improve the quality and availability of equipment. It has enabled sports trained staff to develop a better delivery model for curriculum sport, as well as promote recreational participation in physical activity as a tool for physical, social and psychological wellbeing.

Towards the end of the 2015-16 academic year the government announced they would be extending their sports premium beyond the initial 3 years. As such The Oxfordshire Hospital School will look to using their funding to continue to tackle inactivity, promote healthy living, and allow increased and improved access to sporting opportunities.

The main aim for the hospital school moving forward will be to enhance the sustainability of the current physical activity programme through collaboration with the learning outside the classroom programme, in order to create a new “Personal Development Curriculum” (PDC). The purpose of this collaboration, in relation to the aims of the PE and Sport Premium, will be to further develop a sustainable whole school approach to the delivery of physical activity, health and wellbeing that encourages life-long participation in physical activity through sporting opportunities and health education.
